The changes to EU/UK trade

EORI Number

You need an EORI number to move and clear goods between the UK and the EU

Customs Clearance

Traders that have prepared for the ‘light touch’ CFSP/EIDR regime will not need to submit simplified declarations (C21). In most other cases full C88 declarations will apply.

VAT/Duty

VAT must be accounted for in quarterly return, or paid at border, if not VAT registered. Excise duties will be treated the same as imports from rest of the world

Tariff

You must know your product classification codes. The UK Global Tariff released in May is subject to change as trade negotiations progress. Check our Brexit page for updates.

Fiscal Representation

Fiscal representatives will charge for its services and require a bank guarantee, given they are jointly liable for any VAT debts

Congestion

Government is developing capability to request consignment halts, or route changes to prioritise export flows

HMRC Applications

The simplest solution is to appoint Metro as your customs broker. Otherwise you should apply for authorisation to use simplified declarations, CHIEF access and a duty deferment account

Guarantees

HMRC may shortly announce a plan for deferment accounts not backed by Customs Comprehensive Guarantee
